Smithsonian - Other

Each photo on this page is linked to the page for the photo on the website of the Smithsonian Institution.

I used a shell command like this to make a list of the cultures that the photos were classified under:

curl -Ls 'http://collections.si.edu/search/browse.htm?gfq=CSILP_5&q=%22Photographs%22&facet.field=culture&fq=object_type%3A%22Photographs%22&facet.offset='{0..1930..30}'&inline=true'|tr -d \\n|grep -Eo '<div class="facet-opt.*?</div>'|tr \' \"|sed -n 's,.*"\([^"]*\)" target="_parent" class="term" title="include term".*span class="count">(\([^)]*\).*,\1 \2,p'|xml unesc>cultures

I used a shell command like this to make a list of the URLs of photos that were listed under each culture:

paste -d\ cultures <(cut -d\" -f2 cultures|ruby -rcgi -pae'$_=CGI.unescape($_).downcase.gsub(/\\u(....)/){[$1.hex].pack("U")}'|uconv -f utf-8 -t utf-8 -x NFC|unaccent utf-8|tr -sc a-z\\n -|sed 's/^-//;s/-$//')|while read x y z;do seq 0 20 $((y+19))|sed "s,^,http://collections.si.edu/search/$x&start=,"|xargs curl -Ls|sed -n 's,.*<a href="\([^"]*\).*<img src="http://ids.si.edu/ids/deliveryService?max=120&#38;id=\([^"]*\).*,\1 \2,p'|sed "s,^,$z ,">>photos;done

Some of the persons in the photos that contain multiple persons might not belong to the people or culture that the photo is listed under, and some photos might also be listed under the wrong people or culture.
